Quilt Seminar 7.2015

Quilt Seminar 2015Study Shenandoah Valley quilts and textiles for two days with the Virginia Quilt Museum and The Heritage Museum. Discover textiles of the Valley made before, during, and after the Civil War. Learn about Valley life during and after the conflict, with time to tour the many historic Civil War sites in the area.

Special Lecture by Lynne Z. Bassett, textile and costume specialist, and co-author of Homefront & Battlefield: Quilts & Context in the Civil War. The book is based on the very popular touring exhibit sponsored by the American Textile History Museum, a Smithsonian affiliate. VQM’s Botanical Album quilt was included in the exhibit.

Friday’s events begin with an opening session at The Heritage Museum, followed by an overview of the Geography & Cultures of the area given by HRHS Resident Historian Dale MacAllister. A Quilt Turning presenting the HRHS Collections and independent touring of the Museum and Genealogy & Research Library will complete the afternoon activities.

Full Schedule available on the Virginia Quilt Museum website.
