What can we save today?
Gifts to the Annual Fund support local history preservation and education. The collections create an enormous source of information for study and education. Each uniform, letter, photograph, and family tree offers a tangible connection to the past.
Recently, fifty 5th-grade students visited the museum to complement their new Local History Curriculum studies. The young historians learned how objects in The Strickler Collection: To Preserve A Community create tangible connections to the past. Surveying equipment, early longrifles, and nutcracking stands all speak to the needs and lifestyle of past generations.
In the folk art gallery, one student pointed to two ceramic figures. After we discussed the small Mennonite couple on display, she mentioned that when her family was “sent away,” she went to live with Mennonites. Your contribution will create connections, and personal connections make history relevant.
Members and donors provide over 55% of the financial foundation for exhibitions, research resources, and community outreach. Together, we will continue saving and sharing the stories of local history with your gift to the Annual Fund.
